In the early hours of Wednesday, a shooting incident took place at Fort Stewart, the largest Army post east of the Mississippi River, located approximately 40 miles southwest of Savannah, Georgia.

At around 10:56 am, police were called to the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team area following reports of a possible shooting. The suspect, identified as Army Sergeant Quornelius Radford, 28, allegedly opened fire at his workplace.

The shooting rampage resulted in five soldiers being wounded. Thankfully, they are now in stable condition. The victims of the shooting have not been identified at this time.

Upon the incident, Fort Stewart was immediately locked down at 11:04 am, and nearby schools, including Button Gwinnett Elementary, Joseph Martin Elementary, and Snelson Golden Middle School, were placed on soft lockdown. The lockdown of the main cantonment area was lifted at 12:10 pm.

The known motive behind Radford's actions remains officially unreleased by authorities. However, reports suggest that Radford may have been bullied earlier in his military career due to a stutter and had recently complained of experiencing racism while seeking a transfer from the base. No definitive motive has been confirmed, though these factors could be relevant to understanding the incident.

Authorities have not learned more about Radford's motive, but it did involve his co-workers. As Senator Raphael Warnock and Georgia Governor Brian Kemp monitor the situation, President Donald Trump was briefed on the shooting.

Radford was previously arrested back in May for driving under the influence, according to police records. He is now in custody following the shooting incident at Fort Stewart Hunter Army Airfield in southeast Georgia.

At 11:35 pm, the shooter was taken into custody by soldiers at the base who immediately tackled him and subdued him, allowing law enforcement to take him into custody.

Senator Raphael Warnock and Governor Brian Kemp continue to monitor the situation closely, ensuring the safety and well-being of those affected by this unfortunate incident.
