Gunfire incident at a gas station leads to fatality of a 50-year-old man, police release security footage seeking vehicle with allegedly fake registration plates in connection to the crime.

In the quiet town of Wakefield, West Yorkshire, a tragic incident occurred near a BP petrol station on Doncaster Road last night. A drive-by shooting resulted in the death of a 50-year-old man, known locally as Brett Dale Stogden.

The vehicle involved in the shooting, a distinctive bluey grey-coloured Toyota RAV4, is believed to have been stolen during a burglary in Castleford earlier in August. The car was displaying cloned number plates (FV53 FXT) at the time of the incident, but it could now be driving with different plates. The RAV4 is particularly distinctive due to the bull lights fitted to its roof above the windshield.

Shortly before 10pm last night, the vehicle was seen driving towards Wakefield before turning around near the petrol station. After the shooting, it drove off in the direction it came from. Motorists who were in the Doncaster Road area last night with dashcams fitted are asked to check if they have captured any footage of the vehicle.

West Yorkshire Police have opened a murder investigation and have dedicated significant resources to solving the case. They have increased their presence in the area to reassure the community and are appealing for information from the public, especially those who may have seen the distinctive Toyota RAV4 or have relevant dashcam footage from the Doncaster Road vicinity on the night of the shooting.

Detective Chief Inspector James Entwistle stated that it is a priority for the police to understand the circumstances of the shooting and identify anyone involved. He emphasised that anyone who has seen the vehicle, witnessed the attack, or has any information which could help police is asked to contact the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team.

Tragically, Mr. Stogden was quickly taken to the hospital but died from his injuries. His family has expressed their grief and urged the perpetrators to come forward.

Three men—Marc Carter (19), Adam Ahmed (20), and Leyton Davies (27)—have been charged with murder and are scheduled to appear at Leeds Magistrates’ Court on 18 August 2025.
