Gunfire erupts outside casino in Nevada, leaving three injured
In the early hours of Monday morning, a tragic incident unfolded outside the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada. The shooting, which took place in the resort's parking lot, has left three people dead and three others injured.
The suspected shooter, who opened fire in the casino's valet area, was apprehended by police and taken to the hospital in critical condition. Reports suggest that the shooter initially pulled out a handgun, which malfunctioned, before managing to shoot multiple people, including a driver in the parking lot who also lost their life.
Police responded within minutes, exchanging fire with the suspect and subduing him. Several victims were shot in the valet area, with some in critical condition and others treated and released. Despite the chaos, the casino remained open and operational.
The identity and motive of the shooter have not been disclosed publicly at this time. Law enforcement is actively investigating the reasons behind the attack, with Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve praising the initial response by police, stating that their swift action prevented further escalation of the incident.
The shooting took place around 7:25 a.m. local time, and the investigation is ongoing. The Grand Sierra Resort, a popular casino and hotel in Reno, continues to cooperate with authorities in their investigation.
