In a shocking turn of events, Md Selim, a prominent figure in the Jubo Dal, the youth wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, was tragically killed in a daylight shooting in Raozan, Chattogram, on July 6, 2025. The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Raozan Police Station, Monirul Islam Bhuiyan, confirmed the matter.

The incident occurred around noon in the Ishan Bhattar Hat area of Kodalpur union, Raozan. Md Selim, who was 42 years old at the time of his death, was on a motorcycle with his wife when they were attacked by five masked men in a CNG-run auto-rickshaw. The assailants opened fire, and Selim fell to the ground on the spot.

Locals rushed to the scene and took Selim to the upazila health complex, but upon arrival at the hospital, doctors declared him dead. The body of Md Selim has been sent to the Chattogram Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

The shooting is another instance in a series of violent incidents in Raozan, which has seen a surge in politically motivated attacks. Since 5 August last year, Raozan has witnessed 13 murders, 10 of which are reportedly linked to political rivalry.

The local unit of the BNP has been marred by internal clashes, resulting in over a hundred confrontations and leaving more than 300 people injured by gunfire. However, regarding the investigation into Md Selim's murder, the search results do not provide detailed information on the current status or progress of the investigation. The police have confirmed the killing but no updates on suspects or leads have been reported so far.

OC Monirul Islam Bhuiyan stated that the investigation into Md Selim's murder is ongoing, and efforts are being made to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. No cases have been filed yet in connection with the shooting incident. Md Selim was the former member secretary of the Kodalpur union Jubo Dal convening committee.

The shooting incident prompted a preliminary inquest, but as of now, no significant developments have been reported. The Raozan community mourns the loss of a respected local leader, and the police continue their efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice.
