Gulf of Gelendzhik's "Sea Mile" competition was pushed back
The annual Sea Mile open water swim event, a highlight of Gelendzhik's summer calendar, was scheduled for the 2nd and 3rd of August. However, due to a storm warning issued by the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia (MChS), the event organizers have announced the cancellation of the August 2nd starts.
The Sea Mile, one of the most spectacular summer events on the coast of Gelendzhik, attracts both professional athletes and tourists. This year, approximately 1,500 athletes from 180 cities in Russia were expected to participate in the competition, which includes swims on the main distances: sea mile (1852 m) and double sea mile (3704 m).
The Gelendzhik bay is closed to navigation each year to open the waters for swimmers during the Sea Mile. However, this year, the increased wind and a ban on going out to sea have necessitated the cancellation of the August 2nd starts.
Despite this setback, the Sea Mile competition will still take place on August 3rd. The organisers have been informed by the Gelendzhik administration about the cancellation, and they are working to ensure the safety of all participants for the rescheduled event.
The Sea Mile swim is a unique event that takes place only once a year in Gelendzhik, making it a much-anticipated event for both locals and tourists. The city is looking forward to hosting the rescheduled event on August 3rd, and spectators are encouraged to come out and support the athletes.
The cancellation of the August 2nd starts for the Sea Mile open water swim event due to the storm warning has disrupted the competition schedule. Despite the weather challenges, the Sea Mile swim remains an eagerly awaited sports event in Gelendzhik, with the rescheduled competition being held on August 3rd.
