In a lively afternoon at the FC Chamerau clubhouse, eight local children were introduced to the challenging and culturally rich card game of Grasoberln. The event, part of the vacation program in Chamerau, was hosted by Matthias Ketterl, who also delivered a speech during the gathering.

Each child was divided into teams for the game, and Matthias Ketterl encouraged them to engage in friendly competition while playing. He emphasized the importance of strategic thinking, bluffing, and reading opponents' plays in Grasoberln, a game that requires players to win tricks and manage their hand effectively.

Grasoberln, a mental challenge and a treasure of Austrian culture, belongs to the "Watten" or "Marries/Schafkopf" family of games, which have been played since the 18th or 19th century. The game, which historically uses a German-suited deck, originates from the Austria/Bavaria region and has roots going back several centuries in Central Europe. The name "Grasoberln" refers to the highest trump card, typically the green Ober.

Matthias Ketterl provided each child with a set of Grasoberln cards to keep, and the children were given a brief demonstration before they started playing. Despite its complexity, the children showed great enthusiasm and eagerness to learn the game, and their understanding and engagement improved significantly over the course of the event.

Matthias Ketterl offered to host additional Grasoberln sessions for the children in the future, ensuring that the children would have the opportunity to continue honing their skills and deepening their understanding of this traditional card game. The event, which lasted for the duration of the afternoon, was a memorable and educational experience for all the participants.

The children were introduced to Grasoberln, a mentally stimulating game that offers a glimpse into Austrian lifestyle and entertainment. As they participated in friendly competition, they learned the importance of strategic thinking, bluffing, and reading opponents' plays, which are key elements of this traditional card game dating back several centuries.
