Has the Easter festivity ended? Exploration of the Legendary 'Easter Bunny's' Atmosphere-Building Process - Guide on Achieving the "Sitting Bunny" Sensation

Let's dive into the hubbub about the Easter Bunny!

Is the Easter Bunny a no-go nowadays? Some folks, particularly from the conservative circles on social media, are convinced that certain stores are causing the end of the Easter Bunny, opting instead for "Sitting Bunnies" in their inventory. But, is there any truth to this claim?

Claim

Retail giants like Lidl and Aldi have dropped the Easter Bunny, replacing it with "Sitting Bunnies" to cater to non-Christian shoppers.

Busted! These stores continue to stock Easter-branded merchandise.

The Storied History of the Easter Bunny

We've known them by these names for ages: "Smiley Bunnies" from Milka or "Golden Bunnies" with bells from Lindt. These cute fellows have been lining up at supermarkets for decades, waiting to find their way into your Easter nests.

Interestingly, the term "Easter" wasn't part of their original names, but no one seemed to mind. The first "Golden Bunny" appeared in 1952, followed by the "Smiley Bunny" in 1973.

So, in today's climate, a supposed culture war is raging, with some naysayers criticizing the “Favorina Sitting Bunny with Bow” from Lidl and the “Sitting Bunnies” from Aldi’s Moser Roth brand, claiming it's a distancing from our traditions. Germany, they argue, is tearing itself apart, and some even suggest a "creeping Islamization."

Discount stores still sell Easter-themed products

Despite the accusations, the claim that companies are shying away from the word Easter is false. Lidl clarified to news agency dpa that the term Easter is not avoided in their product lineup. Their current offerings include the "Favorina Easter Nest with Hollow Figures," the "Favorina Easter Mix Bag," and the "Favorina Easter Mug." Even a "Favorina XL Easter Bunny" can be found in their range.

Aldi, too, sells "Fine Easter Eggs" and "Mini Easter Eggs" under Moser Roth. Notably, they offer both a sitting "Sitting Bunny" and a standing "Standing Bunny."

According to the company, "Sitting Bunnies" have been known as such by Lidl for several years to distinguish different products. Different names are a common practice in the retail industry.

So, all the fuss is for nothing. A "Sitting Bunny" is just a bunny sitting down. Most people probably care more about the chocolate inside the packaging than the name on it.

Repeated false accusations surface

Years ago, a similar debate bubbled up about the term "Traditional Bunny." Moreover, the accusation then was as baseless as it is now. The official AfD fan shop even called on Facebook to “quickly secure AfD chocolate bunnies.” Soon afterward, it was changed to "AfD chocolate Easter bunnies" in 2018.

Similarly, during the December hullaballoo when certain chocolate figures lacked the names "Nicholas" or contained no mention of Christmas, the narrative persisted that Christian traditions were under attack. However, actual evidence supporting this claim has been hard to come by.

  1. In the midst of the debate, Lidl and Aldi, like Milka and Lindt & Sprüngli, continue to offer a variety of vocational training opportunities for their employees, significantly contributing to the community policy and providing an array of Easter-themed sweet treats for customers.
  2. As for the "Favorina Sitting Bunny with Bow" and the "Sitting Bunnies" from Aldi’s Moser Roth brand, these are simply embodiments of vocational training, skillfully crafted by workers who have undergone extensive vocational training - a testament to the quality and innovation these discount stores uphold.
  3. Sensitivity and understanding are essential in a diverse community, and the intentions behind offering a "Sitting Bunny" or a "Traditional Bunny" should not be recklessly misconstrued as a sign of Islamization or the disregard of Christian traditions. Coexistence and inclusivity can be embodied in the form of a simple, cocoa-filled Easter bunny, irrespective of its name.
