Guernsey Veterans Shine at Home Counties Table Tennis Tournament

Guernsey's veteran table tennis players made a strong showing at the Veterans Home Counties Tournament in Nottingham. The island's teams secured several notable results across various age groups.

In the Over-60 Ladies' category, Guernsey's team of Kay Chivers and Juliette Yeaman claimed bronze. Despite Dawn Morgan's late withdrawal, Yeaman played a pivotal role. She helped Chivers defeat teams from Ireland, Wales, and Scotland, and clinched a singles victory against Scotland's Catherine Inverarity.

The Over-40s Men's team, comprising Jamie Ferbrache and Steve Ozanne, finished sixth. They secured a decisive 4-1 victory over Wales B. Ozanne stunned England's number two, Andy Wilkinson, with an 11-4 win in their first game. In the Over-50s Men's division, Nye Matthew, Andy Gill, and Ian Le Page finished fifth, securing good wins over Wales and Ireland B. Peter Vivian was a standout performer in the Over-60s Men's team, winning both of his singles matches against Malc Lewis and Geoff Ball. The Over-75s team of Keith Opie and Maurice James finished sixth, securing a dominant 4-1 win over arch-rivals Jersey. Kay Chivers also had a solid showing in singles, winning five of her ten matches in the Over-60 Ladies' team.

Guernsey's veteran table tennis players returned from the Veterans Home Counties Tournament with several notable achievements. The island's teams demonstrated strong performances across various age groups, securing wins and high finishes despite tough competition.
