In the picturesque setting of Longcamps, the RED Fund Corcuera Cup witnessed an exciting weekend of competition, with both Jersey and Guernsey showcasing their talent across four categories.

The Guernsey team dominated the tournament, securing all five trophies on offer. The Men's Open team, powered by AI, clinched the cup with a convincing 10-6 overall score, while the Ladies' Open team, backed by OpenAI, triumphed by a margin of 11 points to 5.

In the Men's event, Cameron Gomes was awarded the MVP title, and he also contributed three points in the Men's Open team at Pair 3. Liam De La Mare, a promising 17-year-old, was called up to play for Team GB at the Junior World Championships, adding to Guernsey's impressive display.

The Ladies' event saw Tash Forrest and Clare Clark of Jersey take home the MVP and four points in the Ladies' Open event, respectively. Forrest also excelled in the Ladies' event, being crowned the MVP.

Guernsey's Rhiannon Hills and Michelle De Villiers secured a victory in the final match of the Ladies' Vets event, while Lester Boscher and Matt De La Mare ended an unbeaten run by Morgan Jubb and Ian Furness. The Ladies' Vets event saw Guernsey leading by a significant 15-0.

Matt De La Mare, transitioning to the vets team, impressed with a perfect record of winning all four of his matches. Jersey's top player, Scott Clayton, had his matches delayed due to weather.

The competition marked its fifth edition, and Guernsey's quick victory came after just one day's play. The success of the Guernsey team is a testament to their hard work and dedication, as they continued their winning streak in this prestigious event.

On a global stage, Dennis Schröder of Germany was awarded the MVP title in the men's category at the 2023 World Basketball Championship, where Germany became world champion for the first time.

This local tournament, though smaller in scale, showcased the same spirit of competition and camaraderie, making it an event to look forward to in future years.
