In a series of devastating strikes, Israel has reportedly eliminated prominent figures from Iran's military and nuclear sectors. General Major Hussein Salami, the commander of the Revolutionary Guards, was killed in an attack on the headquarters of the Revolutionary Guards' command, according to Iranian news agency Tasnim. Besides Salami, two notable nuclear scientists, Mohammed Mehdi Tehrantschi and Fereydun Abbasi, were also reported dead.
Salami was a crucial pillar of Iran's military hierarchy, with significant influence in the Islamic Republic. He was considered one of the most powerful men until his unfortunate demise. The state-run Iranian television confirmed his death in the morning, initially reporting that General Bagheri, the chief of staff of the Iranian armed forces, had survived the attack unharmed in a command center. However, later in the day, state-run television confirmed Bagheri's death as well.
Reports suggest that the Israeli attacks not only targeted the Revolutionary Guards' command but also disrupted the Iranian nuclear program by eliminating key scientists. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed the targeting of the uranium enrichment plant in Natanz and scientists associated with it.
The Revolutionary Guards, Iran's elite force, are far more influential than the regular armed forces. Over time, they have significantly increased their military capabilities and expanded their social and economic influence, controlling hotel chains, airlines, and more. Israel is suspected of having conducted dozens of military and nuclear attacks against Iranian targets.
Recent reports indicate that the group of nine senior scientists and experts in the Iranian nuclear project, killed in the strikes, was part of a broader effort to advance Iran's nuclear ambitions. While specific details about these two scientists are limited, reports suggest that two of the nine were actively working towards the development of nuclear weapons[1]. However, the exact identity of the two scientists specifically reported as nuclear weapons scientists remains unclear.
