The showstopper lineup includes piano virtuoso Anna Vinnitskaya performing Sergei Rachmaninoff's renowned second piano concerto. Joining the symphony is an orchestral suite fashioned by long-time collaborator Alfred Kritzer from some of Herbert's smash hits and film scores.
The finale will feature "Selected Songs" by the man himself. Christiane Peters, ensemble spokesperson, hints that it might be in an orchestral version or maybe just a piano version side by side with Vinnitskaya. Will Grönemeyer bust out the microphone remains a surprise!
Reunion at Bochum 2017
The pop sensation has been in close quarters with these symphonists for years. Their bond became unbreakable when Grönemeyer donated a mammoth benefit concert at the Bochum stadium in 2009 to aid the construction of the Bochum Concert Hall. This act hasn't been easily forgotten by the orchestra, as Peters confided.
Back in 2017, Grönemeyer's debut as a conductor with the ensemble went off without a hitch. Mozart's so-called Jupiter Symphony was the piece of the night, with Grönemeyer's meticulous preparations shining bright. Rehearsals for the current concert are progressing smoothly, Peters reported, with an amicable atmosphere all around.
Catch Grönemeyer conducting on Friday and Sunday at Musikforum Ruhr in Bochum, and at the Essen Philharmonic on Saturday - bonus, the concert will be broadcast outdoors to the Essen Stadtgarten free of charge!
