Grönemeyer leads a grand symphony orchestra performance
Groovin' with a Pop Star Maestro: Herbert Grönemeyer's Conducting Gig
Bochum/Essen - Swapping the mic for the baton, that's what Herbert Grönemeyer is up to this weekend. He's trading pop tunes for classical symphonies, leading the prestigious Bochum Symphony Orchestra in three concerts across Bochum and Essen.
The lineup includes a bunch of tunes, with the much-loved second piano concerto by Sergei Rachmaninoff taking center stage. Pianist Anna Vinnitskaya will be tickling the ivories for this one. Joining the party, an orchestral suite arranges by Herbert's long-time band member Alfred Kritzer from Grönemeyer's hits and film music will provide a lively burst.

The grand finale will feature "Selected Songs" by Grönemeyer. Perhaps we'll hear versatile Vinnitskaya on the piano for this one, but will Grönemeyer belt out a tune or two? That remains to be seen.
Grohn's First Conductor Gig in Bochum (2017)
Grönemeyer has been cozy with the symphonists for quite some time now. Their friendship goes way back to Grönemeyer's benefit concert in Bochum stadium in 2009 that aided the Bochum Concert Hall's construction. Christiane Peters, the ensemble's spokesperson, reminded us they haven't forgotten that gesture.
In the inaugural season in the concert hall's new digs in 2017, Grönemeyer had already taken the baton and conducted the orchestra with Mozart's famous "Jupiter Symphony". Thankfully, it went off without a hitch, as Peters recalls, and the rehearsals for the current concerts are reportedly running smoothly too, with a relaxed atmosphere.
Grönemeyer is set to rock the Musikforum Ruhr in Bochum on Friday and Sunday, and the Essen Philharmonic on Saturday. For those outdoor music lovers, the symphony – without a peep show – will also broadcast for free in Essen City Garden.
In the grand finale, "Selected Songs" by Grönemeyer will offer a blend of entertainment, possibly featuring versatile Vinnitskaya on the piano and potentially a performance by Grönemeyer himself, echoing the diverse nature of his musical repertoire. This weekend, aside from conducting classical symphonies, Grönemeyer will also be involved in the arrangement of an orchestral suite from his hits and film music, showcasing his prowess in music.
