Grisly discovery inside a house of terror, where a deceased couple is reportedly found mutilated - one victim's head apparently severed and displayed on a skewer
In a shocking turn of events, detectives are investigating a double murder that took place in Melbourne's south-east on Monday. A man and a woman were allegedly murdered in a unit, and the street where the incident occurred has since been cordoned off by police.
The gruesome discovery was made at around 9.20pm, when heavily armed police swarmed the property. Upon entering, they found the bodies of the man and the woman inside the unit. A weapon was used in the alleged murder, but it was not a firearm.
Police received several calls regarding the incident at the address prior to the discovery of the bodies. The calls were made based on yelling heard from the property, and a second call suggested the incident was more urgent.
A man, aged 34 and homeless, was arrested near Westall train station, approximately 6km from the crime scene. He was found in the company of two large dogs. The man in custody is being questioned over the deaths and was known to one of the victims.
Investigators are probing the sinister graffiti found outside the unit as it may be relevant to the murder investigation. The graffiti included messages such as 'U R Gay', 'Enough is Enough', 'Betrayal', and 'Karma'. However, there is no information linking the graffiti to the suspect or the alleged crime at this time.
Counselling is being offered to those living in neighbouring units, and forensic crews and investigators will be at the scene most of the day. Police have not released any further details about the victims or the suspect in custody at this time.
The investigation is ongoing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available. Our thoughts are with the families and friends of the victims during this difficult time.
