Greta Thunberg, the renowned climate activist, is set to join the Global Sumud Flotilla, a historic maritime demonstration scheduled for the end of August 2025. The flotilla, organised by activists from 44 countries, aims to challenge Israel's naval blockade of the Gaza Strip and deliver humanitarian aid directly to the region.

The Global Sumud Flotilla is set to depart from Spain on August 31st, with dozens of boats and hundreds of participants, including humanitarian workers, medical professionals, and artists such as Susan Sarandon and Gustaf Skarsgård (though their participation is yet to be fully confirmed).

Thunberg's involvement in this mission is significant, as she was previously detained by the Israeli Navy during a similar attempt in June 2025. The flotilla's goal is to be the biggest attempt ever to break the illegal Israeli siege over Gaza.

In addition to her participation, Thunberg is also mobilising more than 44 countries for simultaneous demonstrations and actions in solidarity with the Palestinian people. On September 4th, dozens more boats are expected to sail from Tunisia and other ports, joining the flotilla's efforts.

The flotilla's actions are planned for a decisive moment, aiming to draw attention to the humanitarian concerns in Gaza and the restrictions imposed by the naval blockade. The Madleen flotilla, a previous attempt, set sail towards Gaza but was intercepted by IDF soldiers without incident.

Thunberg's role in this protest flotilla is as a prominent activist, leveraging her visibility to draw attention to the blockade and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The Global Sumud Flotilla represents a significant effort in the ongoing struggle for freedom and humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip.
