Arriving in Germany as a 16-year-old fleeing political persecution in his homeland, he excelled in German language courses, obtained a secondary school diploma, and pursued diverse apprenticeships before his residency application was rejected, leaving him tolerated in the country at the time of the attack.
Investigators speculate the feud that led to the explosion is a result of an ongoing conflict between two rival groups in the Stuttgart area. The suspect hailed from a Kurdische group based in the Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen and Göppingen regions, targeting perceived adversaries from a rival faction that was mainly active around Esslingen.
Violence erupted in various locales, including Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, Plochingen, Asperg, and Eislingen, with several individuals facing gunfire and fatalities. Over 40 arrests have been made by authorities in response to the unrest, but it remains unclear when each group will face their day in court.
