Greifswald's Figurentheaterfestival FANTAKEL: Celebrate Hans Christian Andersen's Anniversary Sept 26-28
Mark your calendars for Greifswald's city center, where the 17th Figurentheaterfestival FANTAKEL is set to captivate audiences of all ages from September 26 to 28, 2025. This enchanting event promises a mix of plays, exhibitions, and interactive programs, celebrating Hans Christian Andersen's anniversary and featuring 'Ernst Barlach - Are We in Good Times?'
Kicking off the festival on September 26 is 'The Firefighters' Cold Coffee' by Weites Theater, a delightful performance for children aged three and above. The following day, Theater Randfigur will present 'The Princess on the Pea' at Greifswald's city library, perfect for children aged four and above. On the same day, a 'Colorful Interactive Program' will offer creative activities and a participatory orchestra, all for free.
The festival's highlight is the joint production of Musik Theater Cammin and Theater mit Puppen, 'Ernst Barlach - Are We in Good Times?', directed by Anna Stamm. This performance will take place on September 27 and is suitable for both teenagers and adults. The festival will conclude on September 28 with 'The Nightingale' by Seebühne Hiddensee, exploring themes of art, artificiality, love, and transience.
In addition to the performances, an exhibition of children's drawings of fairy tale motifs by Hans Christian Andersen will be on display at the Soziokulturelles Zentrum St. Spiritus throughout the festival. On September 27, TheaterGeist will present 'Alles Familie', a biographical puppet theater exploring various family structures for children aged five and above.
