Greetings to the fresh recruits - Welcome aboard Dortmund Police Department!
In a recent ceremony, Police President Gregor Lange swore in 172 new Police Commissioners in Dortmund, marking a significant step in the city's fight against crime and ensuring public safety.
The newly appointed officers, who have completed their dual studies, will now handle a wide range of tasks. Their core responsibilities include investigating and preventing criminal offenses, as well as traffic accident prevention. The new officers will immediately reinforce locations in Dortmund and Lünen.
Dortmund police are focusing on combating extremism, child pornography, and fostering dialogue and trust with a diverse society. A key initiative is the 'Focus' presence concept, which involves officers being more visible in the city center and northern city center to combat crime in public spaces.
The safety of nearly 700,000 people is now in the hands of these new officers. Lange emphasized that earning the trust of the people is essential for the rule of law to function effectively. He also noted that qualified new recruits are indispensable due to the increasing demands on the police and the complexity of tasks.
The group of new Police Commissioners includes 49 officers transferred from other authorities, as well as 8 government inspectors. This intake also includes 341 police officers and government officials who began their dual studies program on September 1, 2025. This includes over 500 kilometers of highways within the jurisdiction of the Dortmund Police Presidium.

He reiterated that the police must foster trust and cooperation with the community to effectively carry out their duties.
The new Police Commissioners, now part of the 3,945-strong workforce at PP Dortmund (which includes 438 government employees), will undoubtedly play a crucial role in maintaining peace and security in the city. Their dedication and professionalism will be key in ensuring a safer environment for the residents of Dortmund and Lünen.
