In the upcoming mayoral election in Bergisch Gladbach, two candidates are set to face off in a runoff on September 28, 2025. Marcel Kreutz, the joint candidate of the Greens and the SPD, and Alexander Felsch, the CDU and FDP's joint candidate, are gearing up for a decisive showdown.

Marcel Kreutz, a seasoned lawyer with a specialization in construction, planning, and municipal law, has expressed his ambition to become the mayor of Bergisch Gladbach. With a background in municipal finance, having worked as an expert at the NRW County Association, Kreutz brings a wealth of experience to the table.

Kreutz has been instrumental in several key projects for Bergisch Gladbach, including the climate protection concept, school building company, and the sustainable design of the Zanders site. His goal is clear: to steer Bergisch Gladbach towards a sustainable, social, and fair future.

The Greens and the SPD have pledged to stand for "clear, social, and sustainable politics." In the city council election, both parties maintained their results from five years ago, with the Greens receiving 18.1% of the votes and the SPD securing 19.1%.

However, the local election result has produced a diverse city council, necessitating cooperation among all democratic parties for stable majorities. This diversity is a testament to the active participation of Bergisch Gladbach's citizens in the democratic process.

Elisabeth Watzlawek and Joshua Vossebrecker serve as spokespeople for the Greens, while Volker Schiek chairs the SPD. Both candidates, Kreutz and Felsch, are preparing to bring their visions to implementation should they be elected.

The runoff election on September 28 is more than just a decision about who will lead Bergisch Gladbach; it's a choice about the direction the city will take. The choices include sustainable, social, and fair development, clear differentiation from the AfD, constructive cooperation, and a mayor who builds bridges and schools.

Citizens of Bergisch Gladbach have an opportunity to meet and question the two mayoral candidates, Alexander Felsch (CDU/FDP) and Marcel Kreutz (SPD/Greens), in a debate on Saturday at the Schlosstreppe in Bensberg. This debate promises to be an insightful event, shedding light on the candidates' visions and plans for Bergisch Gladbach's future.

Marcel Kreutz is pleased with the high support he received in the first round of the mayoral election. As the race heats up, both candidates are gearing up for a close contest, with the future of Bergisch Gladbach hanging in the balance.
