Green Dominance in Hesse: Anna Lührmann and Julia Frank On Top
- Green summit reassembly in Hessen led by Anna Lührmann and Julia Frank
It's a new era for the Hessian Greens with Anna Lührmann and Julia Frank ruling the roost as the party's top duo. The power couple was elected co-chairs of the Greens at a state party shindig in Marburg.
Lührmann is all fired up for transforming the Greens into a powerhouse movement across Hesse. Having garnered an impressive 87.95% approval in the election, she's ready to make waves. "We're gonna pack a punch, build bigger, and make ourselves heard loud and clear," Lührmann beamed. The party has witnessed a surge in membership, gaining approximately 1,500 new recruits since the turn of the year. Lührmann is a seasoned Green federal parliamentarian and also serves as State Minister for Europe and Climate in the Foreign Office.
Julia Frank, a previous head of the Green district association in Frankfurt, clinched victory with 65.85% approval over Tobias Dondelinger, who was a member of the previous state board. Frank has a vision of a resilient, equitable, and visionary Hesse.
The election of the state board came after some turbulent times. There were scuffles, and initially, the Hessian co-chairs of the Greens, Kathrin Anders, threw in the towel due to dissatisfaction with an alleged pay-for-play party donation scandal involving trips by the previous state chairman, Andreas Ewald, to Israel and the USA. The other board members also bowed out. However, the day before the election, the Wiesbaden public prosecutor's office announced that they found no grounds for suspicion against Ewald in preliminary investigations.
