Lorena Wiebes Wins Tour de France Femmes Green Jersey After Three Years of Trying

Lorena Wiebes has finally achieved her long-awaited victory in the Tour de France Femmes points classification green jersey, following three years of setbacks due to crashes and illness [1][5].

Wiebes' journey to the green jersey began in 2022 when she won the opening stage on the Champs-Élysées and stage 5, only to crash out on stage 7, forcing her to abandon the race [1]. In 2023, she won stage 3 but had to abandon the Tour once again, missing out on the green jersey [1]. The following year, she participated but did not win any stages and finished behind Marianne Vos in the points classification [1].

However, in 2025, Wiebes turned the tables and won stages 3 and 4 back-to-back, including a sprint victory over Vos, and led the points classification decisively. This marked her first successful completion and win of the points classification green jersey in the Tour de France Femmes [1][2][5].

Wiebes described 2025 as her "best season to date," with the green jersey capstoning that success [2]. Her victory was well celebrated as a relief and a triumph after three years of setbacks.

Meanwhile, Élise Chabbey expressed her joy at wearing the green jersey from start to finish in the Tour de France Femmes. Chabbey spent the day in the gruppetto on the final stage, paying the price for her aggressive racing on earlier stages [6]. Despite this, she managed to hold onto the polka-dot jersey for the mountains classification, which she won overall [3].

Maëva Squiban won the overall combativity award in addition to her two stage wins, but Demi Vollering tried to prevent her from gaining too many mountain points [4].

In the young rider classification, Nienke Vinke held onto the white jersey despite losing time in the general classification in the last two stages [7]. She attributed her victory in the young rider classification to having Franzi Koch with her throughout the day, who paced her and provided significant help [8].

The final stage of the Tour de France Femmes was significant for Chabbey as she was close to her native Switzerland, with the crowd supporting her throughout the day. Many people wrote her name on the road and wore polka-dot t-shirts in her honour [9].

Vinke expressed her gratitude for winning a jersey in a Grand Tour, especially in the Tour de France, one of the biggest races on the calendar [10]. She also thanked Demi Vollering for helping her defend the polka-dot jersey [11].
