Green Day's trading card art evokes a nostalgic sense of the most critically panned film in cinematic history.

In an exciting fusion of punk rock culture and classic humor, the US punk band Green Day has teamed up with the Garbage Pail Kids parody franchise to release a special edition trading card set. The Green Day Garbage Pail Kids trading cards, part of the 2024 Garbage Pail Kids Battle of the Bands - Green Day set by Topps, were officially launched on August 27, 2025.

This 100-card base set includes 50 unique images of Green Day, each having A and B versions. The cards feature band members Billie Boogers, Burnt Dirnt, and Tricky Tre, as well as cards inspired by iconic song titles such as Good Riddance and Basket Case. Some cards are animated, some are signed, and some even contain tour-used relics from band members Billie Joe Armstrong, Tré Cool, and Mike Dirnt.

The set also includes multiple insert series, exploring various facets of the band's history and music. These include Album Art, American Idiot, B-Sides, Battle of the Bands, Dookie 30 Years, Standing Room Only, Sweet Children, and Tribute to East Bay. Rare chase cards include autographs and tour-used relics, with limited editions like the American Idiot Triple Autographs, limited to five copies. Other memorabilia features guitar strings, drumsticks, and photographs, adding a unique element to the Garbage Pail Kids cards.

The set visually reimagines the band’s legacy in the classic twisted GPK style, with artwork contributed by several notable artists. Although initially announced as a 2024 set, the actual product launch and distribution occurred in 2025.

The original Garbage Pail Kids, released back in 1985, were an anti-establishment phenomenon known for their shock value and dark humor. They were controversial enough to be banned in many schools and countries, yet successful enough to inspire a movie. The 1987 live-action movie, however, was considered a flop.

The collaboration between Green Day and Garbage Pail Kids may be seen as a fitting one for a band that has cultivated an outsider status. The idea for the trading cards was dreamed up by cartoonist Art Spiegelman, best known for the graphic novel Maus.

This collectible set combines nostalgia, punk rock culture, and GPK’s signature humor and artwork style, offering a unique and entertaining experience for fans of both Green Day and Garbage Pail Kids. Preorders for the set began on August 5, 2025, with a typical box priced at around $79.99.
