Greatest Expansion of Russian Territory in Daily Basis within a Year
In the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, Russian forces have made slow but steady territorial gains in the eastern front over recent months. However, there is no verified evidence of new or substantial territorial gains by Russian forces in Ukraine specifically in the past 24 hours.
According to reports, Russian forces have expanded their control by approximately 241 square miles from mid-July to mid-August 2025, a 7% increase compared to the previous month-long period. This figure, however, covers a month-long span, not the past 24 hours.
Russian forces continue to engage in difficult, incremental campaigns in eastern Ukraine, such as around Donetsk Oblast. Advances are typically measured in a few miles over many months. For instance, it took Russian forces 14 months to seize the town of Toretsk by August 1, 2025, and 26 months to advance from Bakhmut to Chasiv Yar with incomplete control of the latter.
Reports from August 19 noted Russian forces advanced near Chasiv Yar and Toretsk, but there is no mention of new territorial gains within the past day. Similarly, a recent report on August 21 does not indicate specific territory newly captured in the last 24 hours, instead highlighting continued strikes and broader operational developments.
