Graz's Wassertürme to Stay Closed This Easter, Aachen's Fountains Prepare for Winter Shutdown
Graz's iconic Wassertürme on Europaplatz are not planned to be taken out of service or reconnected for Easter, according to current public information. These former utilitarian towers, now cultural landmarks, have not been operational for years.
The Wassertürme, once crucial for Graz's water supply, are now primarily used for cultural and tourist purposes. Despite recent renovations, they remain out of service. There are no indications that they will be reconnected to the public water network for Easter 2025 or any time soon.
Meanwhile, in Aachen, preparations are underway to shut down the city's fountains for the winter. The historic fountains in the Old Town will be the first to be affected, with the shutdown expected to be completed in about four weeks. The fountains at Elisengarten and the New Spa House will continue to operate as usual, supplied by warm thermal water. The city and regional utility provider Regionetz are collaborating on this process. Traditionally, the fountains reemerge from their winter pause at Easter.
In Graz, the Wassertürme on Europaplatz remain closed, with no public plans for reopening. In Aachen, the winter shutdown of fountains is proceeding as planned, with a completion date set for about four weeks from now.
