In a tough and uneventful first half at the Weser Stadium, SC Freiburg and Werder Bremen battled it out, with neither team managing to replicate their impressive form from previous matches.

Bremen's managing director, Clemens Fritz, demanded more speed and clarity in their actions at halftime, but the team struggled to find their footing after the break. Justin Njinmah replaced Samuel Mbangula due to the latter's muscle problems, and Mbangula's absence was notably felt in Bremen's attack.

Freiburg, on the other hand, capitalised on Bremen's struggles. Cameron Puertas, Bremen's new signing, handled the ball, leading to a penalty and Freiburg's first goal, scored by Vincenzo Grifo in the 33rd minute.

The second half saw Bremen come out strong, but their chances of a comeback faded after Marco Schmid missed his penalty. Freiburg then counter-attacked, with Junior Adamu scoring the second goal in the 54th minute, putting the game out of reach for Bremen.

In the 75th minute, Bremen suffered another setback when Karim Coulibaly scored an own goal for Freiburg, further summing up Bremen's dismal afternoon. This is a record for a goalkeeper aged 23 in the Bundesliga, marking Atubolu's fifth consecutive saved penalty in the Bundesliga.

Freiburg's win boosted their confidence ahead of their Europa League opener against FC Basel on Wednesday, while Bremen's next match is a trip to Bayern Munich, indicating another potential setback for the team. Freiburg's coach, Julian Schuster, emphasized the importance of their first win of the season before the game, and it seems that Freiburg has finally put their two opening defeats behind them, securing a 3-0 victory over Bremen.
