Grape harvest in Crimea predicted to decrease by 15-18% due to frost and drought conditions
In the Crimean region, an unexpected decrease in the grape harvest is expected for 2025 due to abnormal spring frosts and summer drought, as announced by the regional head, Sergey Aksyonov, on social media.
According to reports, the unusual weather conditions have devastated part of the vineyards in Crimean households. As a result, it is expected that the region will harvest 15-18% less grapes than in 2024, when 123,000 tons were harvested.
The Crimean Ministry of Agriculture has been instructed to organize immediate measures to eliminate the consequences of the emergency. Local heads have been tasked with ensuring the implementation of these instructions. However, no information is provided about the specific measures being taken to mitigate the effects of the unusual weather on the grape harvest.
The current harvest is taking place under these challenging conditions, with over 24 tons of grapes already gathered from an area of more than 8 hectares.
In an effort to recover and support the viticulture industry, it is planned to plant at least 1,100 hectares of new vineyards by the end of 2025. Funds are being used for purchasing planting material, trellises, and equipment in support of the industry.
It is worth noting that 839.5 million rubles have been allocated for viticulture and winemaking in Crimea for 2025, an increase from the 736.8 million rubles in 2024. As of now, almost 100% of the allocated funds have been used.
The news outlet kubnes.ru reported on the implementation of an emergency regime in some Crimean municipalities due to the abnormal temperatures. However, no details are given about the extent to which the emergency regime has been implemented in the affected municipalities.
Despite the challenges, there is no information in the search results about the name of the Minister of Agriculture in Crimea organizing measures in 2025 to address the consequences of storms in the region's viticulture.
