Grants in 2024 CHAN Contest: Potential Impact of a Billion Shillings on Common Kenyans

The Kenyan national football team, Harambee Stars, is gearing up for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN). And if they manage to clinch the championship, they are in for a significant financial boost.

President William Ruto has promised an additional Sh 600 million if Harambee Stars wins the tournament, adding to the Sh 400 million pledged by former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko. This means that the team could potentially receive a total reward of 1 billion Kenyan shillings.

The reward includes the tournament tag money. President Ruto has also promised the players Ksh1 million each for every tournament win and Ksh500,000 each for a draw during the competition.

It's important to note that the Sh1 billion figure refers specifically to the additional rewards from Kenyan supporters and government figures. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) itself offers a prize of approximately Ksh452.2 million (USD 3.5 million) to the winning team. However, this Sh1 billion reward to Harambee Stars is exclusive of the CAF prize money, representing a significant national reward package if they win CHAN 2024.

In essence, a win for Harambee Stars in the CHAN tournament will result in a reward of Sh1 billion, a significant boost for the team and Kenyan football as a whole. Let's rally behind our national team and wish them the best of luck in their quest for victory.

The Kenyan national football team, Harambee Stars, is eagerly training for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), aiming to win the tournament and reap a potential reward of Sh1 billion from their home country. This substantial sum is a combination of the Sh 600 million pledged by President William Ruto and the Sh 400 million previously promised by former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, as well as individual rewards for each win or draw during the competition.
