Grand Theft Auto 6 Exclusive Sneak Peek: Essential Insights on the Upcoming Grand Theft Auto Game
Whatcha Gonna Do in GTA 6?
Accept no substitutes, here's the scoop on GTA 6!
The legend continues! Over a decade has passed since Grand Theft Auto V graced our screens, but what's brewing for the next mind-blowing chapter in the belligerent tale of Grand Theft Auto?
Grand Theft Auto V, the game that stole over 430 million hearts (and wallets) by August 2024, is undoubtedly one of the most successful video game series in the world. With anticipation building to fever pitch, the next episode in this beloved series, GTA 6, is finally here, and we're about to dive headfirst into the action!
So, What's the Game About, Squaaad?
Grand Theft Auto VI is the official title for the sixth core entry in the iconic Grand Theft Auto video game franchise. According to Rockstar Games Founder Sam Houser (who broke the news on December 4, 2023 alongside the first official trailer), "Grand Theft Auto VI continues our efforts to push the limits of what's possible in highly immersive, story-driven open-world experiences."
Much like its predecessor, GTA 5, GTA 6 will offer both single-player and multiplayer modes, where players can embark on cooperative heist missions, execute targeted hits, purchase businesses, dominate the synthetic stock market, rob citizens, and navigate intricate vehicles, among other thrilling hijinks!
Well, When Can We Get Our Hands on GTA 6?
Well, sorry to keep you waiting, but the game's development was only officially confirmed by Rockstar Games back in February 2022. And in December 2023, we learned that the game won't be launched until 2025 - but in May 2025, the developers announced a slight delay, moving the release date to 2026, with a firm date set for May 26, 2026.
"We are very sorry that this is later than you expected," the statement read. "The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game."
"With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto 6 is no exception," it continued. "We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve"
Sweet! What Platforms Will GTA 6 Be Available On?
The eagerly anticipated game will be releasing for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. However, no release date for the PC version has been confirmed yet[4].
Historically, PC versions have been released much later than console versions for GTA games. In February 2025, during an interview with IGN, Take-Two boss Zelnick reiterated this trend, saying, "With regard to others in our lineup, we don't always go across all platforms simultaneously. Historically, Rockstar has started with some platforms and then historically moved to other platforms."
What about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2? While Take-Two has not made any specific game announcements for the console, Zelnick stated during a February 2025 earnings call that the company broadly plans to support the new platform. So, while we can't say for certain, there's definitely a chance GTA 6 will be available for Nintendo fans in the future.
What Was Leaked About GTA 6?
In September 2022, hackers managing to gain access to Rockstar Games allegedly leaked various pieces of content from Grand Theft Auto 6 to the online forum GTAForums. The leaked content included gameplay footage, character models, and plot details[2]. While the content was later removed due to a copyright infringement claim, it provided fans with some tantalizing hints about what to expect from GTA 6.
One notable leak suggested that the game may be set in Vice City, a Miami-esque city that first appeared in the series' fourth game, GTA: Vice City, and was published back in 2002[2]. Additionally, the leaked footage featured a playable Latina character and a white male character who were shown committing crimes and possibly having a romantic relationship[2].
What's New in GTA 6?
One of the most exciting updates for GTA 6 is the inclusion of a female character as a playable protagonist, a first for the franchise[3]. The game could also feature an "evolving" world, meaning the game maps may change over time to reflect seasonal changes or other updates[3].
Another intriguing development is the involvement of American musician T-Pain, who has stated that he's working on the game in some capacity[5].
Stay tuned for more updates on the chaotic journey that Grand Theft Auto 6 promises to be!
In the meantime, we'll just have to settle for lighting up our pixelated streets in GTA Online, just remember, Zelnick and the team at Rockstar have nothing in the pipeline for crytpo or NFTs[5], so don't try and pull any sneaky stunts!
