In the realm of live performances, two notable productions have recently been honoured with the prestigious Opus Deutscher Buhnenpreis. The award, considered one of the most esteemed accolades in the event technology industry, recognises excellence in various performing arts and music categories in Germany.

The "The Blossum Tour" by the musical duo Milky Chance has been awarded in the category "Production Design - Tour". The tour's set design, which can be transported in a tour bus trailer and a universal cargo flight container, is a testament to innovation and resourcefulness, as it makes use of flexible, copper elements that form the focus of the design. Light designer Jojo Tillmann creatively utilises these elements for both decoration and lighting, while controlled artificial lighting and the unpredictable reflection of daylight on the metallic surface create new light spaces.

Milky Chance's set design also incorporates special effects such as black lights, fire, water, fog, and an "erupting" stage floor, making for an impressive and visually striking experience.

Meanwhile, at Berlin's Friedrichstadt Palast, THE ONE Grand Show has been triumphant in the category "Technical Realization - Permanent Installation". Known for its lavish costumes and grand stage with over 100 performers, THE ONE Grand Show boasts elaborate set designs that accompany its thematic storytelling inspired by poetry. The set design includes four three-dimensional decorative elements with an optically perforated surface, creating a reminiscence of an old, dilapidated theater hall and facilitating flexible illumination without influencing the sound.

This large-scale theatrical production, typical of those staged at Friedrichstadt Palast, involves significant budgets due to the scale and technical complexity of its stage, which is the world's biggest theater stage.

While both productions have been recognised by the Opus Award, there are no direct search results comparing them specifically in terms of set design, budget, or technical realization. However, it is clear that each production showcases a unique approach to live performance, with Milky Chance's "The Blossom Tour" focusing on a music-centric concert tour with technically sophisticated setups, and THE ONE Grand Show offering a grand theatrical experience.

The awards will be presented together with the Sinus Award on April 12 at a festive ceremony during the Prolight + Sound 2018. The Opus Award is given by the Association of Media and Event Technology (VPLT), the European Association of Event Centers (EVVC) and Messe Frankfurt.

Event technology played a crucial role in the set designs of the winning productions at the recent Opus Deutscher Buhnenpreis awards. The "The Blossom Tour" by Milky Chance, recognized in the Production Design - Tour category, employed innovative and resourceful flexible, copper elements in their design, while THE ONE Grand Show at Berlin's Friedrichstadt Palast, triumphant in the Technical Realization - Permanent Installation category, boasted elaborate set designs that facilitated flexible illumination without influencing the sound.
