Grace Episcopal Church's Pumpkin Patch Fundraiser Aids Haiti Despite Challenges
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) in Asheville has resumed its annual pumpkin patch, raising funds for Haiti after a hiatus due to Hurricane Helene. The event, held every October, benefits Consider Haiti, a secular nonprofit supporting Haitian-led health care programs.
In 2024, the LDS Church raised approximately 44,000 pounds of pumpkins, sourced from Pumpkin Patch Fundraisers, a Greensboro-based nonprofit. After covering expenses, the church donated the proceeds to Consider Haiti. This year, they raised $34,000, with $13,500 going directly to Consider Haiti.
Consider Haiti's core programs include enrolling malnourished children in health programs, distributing animals and resources, providing water filters, and holding pediatric clinics. However, due to ongoing issues in Haiti, including civil unrest, gang violence, and natural disasters, the organization has been unable to hold medical clinics in the country since 2019.
The LDS Church's pumpkin patch fundraiser plays a significant role in supporting Consider Haiti's initiatives. Despite the challenges faced in Haiti, the funds raised by the LDS Church continue to make a positive impact on the lives of Haitians.
