"GQuuuuuuX" Amplifying "Gundam" Remix to a New Intensity

Recently, I mentioned that Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX was subtly incorporating major characters from the original Gundam series, ranging from the seemingly absent Amuro Ray to the somewhat present Char Aznable, and most notably, the enigmatic Lalah Sune. This week, however, Lalah wasn't just skirting around the edges anymore.

In episode nine, aptly titled "The Rose of Sharon," we finally see Lalah Sune making a significant impact on the series. After Machu manages to break free from captivity and heads to Earth, he finds Lalah trapped in a high-class brothel. But unlike the Lalah we knew from the 1979 anime, this one is not our Rose of Sharon. She's more of a shade of her former self, her Newtype abilities granting her visions not of the future but of the past, ably conveying GQuuuuuuX's unique take on a classic scene.

In a celestial glow symbolizing the connection between Newtypes, Lalah confesses that the future she sees is her own. It's a dark future she describes, characterized by another Lalah who meets a Zeon officer in red and is torn between love and loyalty until her untimely demise in battle. To Machu, she conveys the tale as if it's a distant memory, a haunting echo of the original Gundam timeline.

The revelation that Lalah's visions dip into the original Gundam timeline raises numerous intriguing questions. Is this divergent timeline coexisting with the original one in some capacity, or are they forever separate? As more mysteries unfold, things only get more captivating, particularly in the final moments when Lalah's mobile armor, Elmeth, was discovered.

Submerged at the bottom of the ocean until Machu and his crew found it, Elmeth had somehow transcended time and dimensions, acting as a powerful Newtype beacon that resonated across this alternate timeline. In its timeless state, it was, and still is, a force that has drawn Newtypes like Char, Lalah, and Machu. More importantly, it has summoned the original Lalah Sune, the Rose of Sharon we've all been seeking.

The Gundam franchise isn't unfamiliar with the concept of alternate realities, as various shows have explored alternate universes to twist and reinterpret the original stories. GQuuuuuuX is simply following suit, using its divergent timeline to create echoes of the Universal Century stories. With only a handful of episodes left in the season, let's see how this series will build on its remixing and meta-commentary, harvesting either fresh insights or just spinning the heads of die-hard fans.
