Governor of Voronezh region allegedly funds Russian military forces, as per Ukrainian accusations

In a recent development, Ukraine has charged Boris Korchevnikov, a Russian TV presenter, with providing support to the Russian Armed Forces. This marks the sixth individual to face such accusations from Ukraine.

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) filed the charges against Korchevnikov in March, but details about his specific role and the evidence against him remain unclear. This continued effort by Ukraine to hold individuals accountable for their roles in supporting the Russian army comes after accusations against five Russian Armed Forces generals for alleged war crimes.

Meanwhile, Alexander Gusyev, the Governor of Voronezh Oblast, has been charged with financing the Russian army by the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine. Gusyev is accused of ensuring the allocation of funds from the regional government's reserve fund for individuals participating in combat operations. However, it is important to note that there is no official conviction for Gusyev on this matter as of the current date.

Gusyev has been under Ukrainian sanctions since October 2022 and is included in the sanctions lists of the USA, Canada, UK, EU, Switzerland, Australia, and New Zealand. In contrast, Korchevnikov has not been under Ukrainian sanctions prior to March 2023.

It is noteworthy that Korchevnikov's charges are separate from the sanctions lists, which do not include him. The UK sanctions list and other related documents mention some individuals connected to Russian politics and military support, but Alexander Gusyev is not listed among those sanctioned or convicted for financing the armed forces.

News about Gusyev primarily concerns his statements about a Ukrainian drone attack on Voronezh and local regional matters, suggesting no clear connection between him and Korchevnikov, who is the sixth individual charged by Ukraine in relation to support for the Russian army.

What could be the potential role of politics in these developments, given the charges against Boris Korchevnikov and Alexander Gusyev in the context of war-and-conflicts, crime-and-justice, and general-news? It's intriguing to consider if they have any connections, considering Korchevnikov's charges are separate from the sanctions lists, while Gusyev is under sanctions but not listed as connected to Russian military support.
