Governor Josh Shapiro indicates that Vice President Kamala Harris will need to address why she has remained silent regarding issues pertaining to President Biden.
In a recent podcast, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro expressed his concerns about Vice President Kamala Harris's silence on former President Joe Biden's ability to serve during his term. Shapiro, who stands alongside Democratic governors in opposing Trump's attacks on democracy, made these remarks in a new political podcast hosted by Stephen A. Smith.
Despite not having read Harris' soon-to-be-released book, Shapiro criticized the Vice President for not speaking out publicly about his concerns. He believes that all leaders, including the President, should speak and act with moral clarity.
In her book, Harris addressed her role in Biden's decision to run for re-election. According to her account, she was in the room when Biden made the decision, but she chose to remain silent to allow Biden to make the decision alone. Harris wrote that she was in a poor position to make the case that Biden should drop out, as it would be seen as self-serving or disloyal.
Harris' decision to remain silent was also influenced by the White House's handling of the matter, which she described as reckless. However, in the final weeks before the election, Harris told NBC News that she was honest with the American people about Biden's fitness for office.
In response to Shapiro's criticism, a Harris spokesperson said that Biden's words speak for themselves. Meanwhile, it was announced in August 2024 that Minnesota Governor Tim Walz was selected as Harris' running mate.
It's worth noting that Shapiro himself has been vocal with Biden and his staff about his concerns. A person close to Shapiro stated that he decided not to be vice president because he loved his job as governor and felt he had more to accomplish.
Experts suggest that Donald Trump's administration faces hurdles in targeting left-wing groups, making it unclear how Shapiro's criticism of Harris will impact the political landscape moving forward.
