Governor Gladkov discusses the circumstances in Belgorod region's vicinity.
In the wee hours of the night, the Ukrainian military (AFU) unleashed a barrage of attacks on the Belgorod region in Russia, claiming lives and causing destruction. The news of this offensive was shared by Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov via his Telegram channel.
An estimated 200 artillery rounds and 108 drones were launched, leaving a trail of damage in the wake. Over 45 settlements in nine districts endured the brunt of this attack. A multi-story building, numerous private homes, a warehouse, two community facilities, a bus, and 14 vehicles were damaged, with two agricultural enterprises also suffering losses.
The Krasno Yarugskiy district bore the brunt of the onslaught, sustaining 188 artillery rounds in 26 shellings and 27 drone attacks. A drone strike on a parked car along the Red Yaruga – Otradovka road resulted in injuries for two men. The Belgorod district witnessed attacks on eight settlements by 11 drones. The Borisovsky district was targeted by 12 drones, where a woman was injured on the Novoalexandrovka – Stanovoe road. The Valuysky district withstood ten rounds and 24 drone attacks, with the Veidelevsky and Volokonovsky districts, as well as the Graivoronsky district, also receiving drone and artillery attacks. A fatal car accident on the Graivoron – Ilek-Penkovka road, caused by a drone strike, left two people dead and three more injured.
A drone was taken down over the Rakitansky district, while the Shebekinsky municipal district withstood 16 rounds in two shellings and 20 drone attacks, with 14 being shot down. Two men were injured in the village of Nova Tavolzhanka following a drone strike on a vehicle.
These recent incidents follow previous Ukrainian strikes on April 23 and 24, 2025, which are said to have resulted in the deaths of three people in the region[1]. The underlying cause for these attacks lies in the ongoing conflict and strained border relations between Ukraine and Russia, characterized by frequent military engagements and cross-border attacks[1]. Additionally, reports suggest that low morale and alcohol abuse among Russian troops may have compromised their operational security, leading to faulty execution of assaults and significant losses due to Ukrainian drone strikes and other military actions[2].
In light of these events, it's crucial to recognize the broader conflict dynamics between Russia and Ukraine, where both sides continue to suffer casualties in various military confrontations. Stay informed and stay safe. [Sources: 1, 2]
