Governor Abiodun Praises INEC for Exceeding Expectations in By-Election with High Participation
Ogun State Governor Praise INEC for Smooth By-Election
Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the smooth and peaceful conduct of the Remo Federal constituency by-election that took place on Saturday.
Governor Abiodun expressed his satisfaction with the early arrival of electoral materials, the impressive voter turnout, and the peaceful voting process, which was devoid of violence or major disruptions. He noted that despite minor issues with the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) in some areas, the process remained smooth overall.
The BVAS system was used for voter accreditation in the by-election, as previously mentioned. A heavy security presence was reported across Sagamu, Ikenne, and Remo North local governments to ensure a peaceful election environment. Security officials, including the Nigerian Army, Police, Civil Defence, and FRSC officers, enforced the restriction on movement and maintained law and order at polling centers.
The governor voted at Polling Unit 002, Ita Osanyin, Iperu Ward 3, in Ikenne Local Government Area. He also praised INEC for a well-prepared exercise and improving the quality of their services year by year.
Large voter turnouts were reported at Westley Primary School, Iperu (Unit 004, Ward 5), Ogere (Unit 002, Ward 7) in Ikenne Local Government, and Polling Unit 7, Ward 2, Iga Olusi in Sagamu. Despite minor issues, voting was peaceful, with no rancour or fighting reported.
Governor Abiodun did not comment on the results or the candidates in the by-election. The by-election took place in various locations within Ogun State, including those mentioned above. The governor's praise for INEC's improvements in service quality during the by-election is a testament to the commission's continued efforts to improve the electoral process in Nigeria.
