Government policy announcement postponed; House Speaker anticipates alignment among cabinet members
The much-anticipated policy statement from the newly formed government is yet to be scheduled, according to House Speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Matha. The delay is due to the contingency that the policy statement can only be delivered after the prime minister and cabinet have received a royal audience to take the oath of office.
The Bhumjaithai Party, which is a key player in the current government formation, was represented at the royal audience by its leader and new Prime Minister, Anutin Charnvirakul, as well as Permpoon Chidchob, the Minister of Education. This prominent role of Bhumjaithai members in the government formation indicates their involvement in the policy-making process.
In accordance with the law, the policy statement must be delivered within 15 days after the oath ceremony. Once the government is ready, it will inform the House of Representatives of its readiness to deliver the statement. After receiving this information, the three-party whips will convene to determine the exact date and time for the delivery.
It is worth noting that the policy statement delivery will not take place on September 25-26, as no joint sitting of parliament is scheduled for those days. The exact date and time for the delivery is yet to be determined, with Wan Noor clarifying that the timing will depend on when the government is ready.
As the government settles into its new roles and responsibilities, the public eagerly awaits the policy statement that will outline the government's plans and priorities for the coming months. The House Speaker, Wan Noor, has expressed his readiness to coordinate with the cabinet once they are ready to set a date for the delivery of the policy statement.
