Government Orders 200 Armored Fighting Vehicles from KNDS and Rheinmetall - Government Orders 200 Armored Fighting Vehicles from KNDS and Rheinmetall
Germany has placed a major order for 200 new Puma infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs). The €4.2 billion contract was signed by the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology, and In-Service Support (BAAINBw). The first deliveries are expected to begin in mid-2028.
The deal follows a framework agreement established in 2023, which initially led to an order for 50 Pumas. This time, the Bundeswehr has expanded its procurement significantly. The supplier, PSM GmbH—a joint venture between Rheinmetall Landsysteme and KNDS—will handle production and delivery.
Each Puma IFV is designed to carry nine soldiers, with six serving as the infantry squad. The order also includes protective modules and storage containers tailored for the vehicles. The contract marks a substantial investment in modernising Germany’s armoured capabilities. Production will ramp up ahead of the first scheduled deliveries in mid-2028.
The €4.2 billion agreement ensures the Bundeswehr will receive 200 advanced Puma IFVs by the end of the decade. These vehicles, along with their specialised equipment, will enhance the army’s mobility and protection. Deliveries will begin in mid-2028 as planned.
