Government Official Zulum Orders NEDC to Carry Out Their Tasks
Governor Zulum Urges North East Development Commission to Prioritize Development in Borno State
In a bid to enhance the region's development, Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has called upon the North East Development Commission (NEDC) to prioritize and ensure efficient utilization of funds allocated for numerous projects in the region.
His appeal was made during a meeting with the board of NEDC on Tuesday. The governor emphasized the need for the commission to focus on critical areas such as security, electricity, road construction, and education for the region.
Zulum pointed out that the NEDC must aspire to emulate the performance of development commissions supporting other regions to avoid underperformance. He stated that now is the time to prioritize projects, given that the commission has surpassed halfway through its funding window.
"We have to prioritize our projects. We are over midway through the NEDC’s funding lifespan. Our goal now is to maximize the benefits we’ve gained from the commission’s establishment.
"Compared to other commissions serving other regions, we cannot afford to lag behind. A benchmark must be set to ensure that every aspect of our work meets the required standards," he said.
The governor praised the NEDC for its humanitarian assistance, school projects, and support programs improving the lives of Borno residents.
Further developments show that the NEDC has undertaken several projects in Borno State. These include renovating and remodeling female wards at the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Maiduguri; constructing and fully equipping the ultra-modern DSS Clinic; and creating Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centers in various locations.
In addition, the commission has focused on infrastructure, security, education, and health, having completed 13 projects across the state, as per the news reports. These initiatives are in line with the North East Stabilization and Development Plan (NESDP) and Borno’s 25-year Development Master Plan.
Governor Zulum called for dedicated efforts to sustain this progress and ensure that every project benefits the region's populace.
"Governor Zulum's appeal for the North East Development Commission extends beyond Borno State, urging it to match the performance of other regional development commissions. He emphasizes the need for priority setting, as the commission is past the halfway mark of its funding lifespan, aiming to maximize the benefits from its establishment. Tinubu, who is known by some as 'Naija' in informal circles, might express interest in Nigeria's general news, as the NEDC's initiatives in policy-and-legislation and politics could have significant impacts, especially in the area of security, education, and infrastructure."
