Government Official Ododo Condemns Violent Assault by Egbe Outlaws, Vows Retribution for slain Victims
In a recent visit to the troubled Egbe community in Yagba West Local Government Area, Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, strongly condemned the brutal attack that left gallant officers of the Nigeria Police Force and members of the Vigilante Service dead.
Accompanied by high-ranking officials such as the Deputy Governor, the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hilary Ojoma Egwudah, the State Security Adviser, Rtd Commander Jerry Omodara, the Commissioner for Environment and Ecological Management, Engr Joseph Oluwaseun, the State Coordinator of the AGILE Project, Abdullahi Tijani Oricha, and the Chairman of Olamaboro Local Government Area, Williams Ikojo Ameh, among others, Governor Ododo expressed his condolences to the bereaved families and pledged that the government will stand by them and ensure the dependents of the fallen heroes are not abandoned.
In his address, Omodara revealed plans to establish a Forward Operation Base (FOB) in Egbe to address the persistent insecurity in the area. He emphasized the state government's efforts in strengthening security in border communities, stating that most bandits terrorizing flashpoints in the state are fleeing from neighboring states. Omodara also warned local collaborators and saboteurs that they will be dealt with decisively.
The State Security Adviser further highlighted the government's collaboration with the Federal Government and the National Security Adviser in intercepting and neutralizing these criminals. He urged residents not to succumb to fear but to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies, and promptly report suspicious activities.
His Royal Highness, Oba Ayodele Irukera, the Elegbe of Egbe, apologized for the recent road blockade staged by youths, describing it as a reaction to the insecurity in the area. He appealed for more security presence due to Egbe's vulnerability as a border community.
Hon. Tosin Olokun, Chairman of Yagba West Local Government Area, appreciated the Governor for visiting to assess the pain inflicted on the community and to commiserate with them. He warned against harboring criminals or aiding their operations in any form.
Engr. Olugbenga David, a youth representative, urged the government to involve young people in its security strategies and called for the deployment of more personnel, including trained forest guards, to the area.
In response, Governor Ododo assured that his administration will intensify collaboration with security agencies, improve community policing, and provide more support and resources to local vigilantes to secure every part of the state. He urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies to maintain peace in the community.
