"Government Official Admits to Job Offer for Personal Favors: Lawyer Pursues ₦5 Billion Lawsuit in Response"

In a surprising turn of events, Comfort Emmanson, a passenger who was removed from an Ibom Air flight due to a refusal to turn off her phone and a physical altercation with a flight attendant, has been offered a job and a luxury package by Success Ossai, the Special Adviser to the Delta State Governor on Media.

The incident, which took place on August 10th, garnered significant public attention and sympathy, with Emmanson being portrayed as a victim of both the airline's enforcement measures and physical abuse. Emmanson's account reveals that the conflict started due to a faulty power button on her phone, which escalated after the flight attendant insisted she comply. The situation grew worse upon landing, culminating in Emmanson being forcibly removed from the plane and sustaining physical injuries.

Ossai's offer seems to be a supportive response linked to the publicized incident and Emmanson's narrative of suffering and resilience. The luxury package includes a monthly salary of ₦500,000, flight tickets, accommodation in a five-star hotel, a guided tour, and a ticket to the Delta Social Media Summit scheduled for August 28 in Asaba.

However, the offer has not been without controversy. Public interest lawyer Ayodele Ademiluyi has instituted a ₦500 billion suit against various aviation stakeholders at the Federal High Court in Lagos, alleging gross violation of the rule of law in the handling of two aviation incidents. Ademiluyi criticizes the handling of the Emmason and KWAM 1 cases, stating that there was no arrest, no arraignment, no prosecution of KWAM 1.

Ossai has dismissed speculations of having a romantic interest in Emmason, stating that he is a married man. He also dismissed criticisms that his offer could encourage unruly behavior among air passengers, clarifying that the gesture was a personal decision, not from the state government, to help Emmason reintegrate into society.

The case exposes deeper institutional weaknesses in the aviation system and calls for a complete overhaul. The Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo (SAN), intervened in Emmanson's case, leading to her release. Ibom Air imposed a lifetime ban on Emmason, and she was later arraigned and remanded in the Kirikiri Correctional Centre.

This incident and the subsequent offer to Emmason have sparked a broader debate about the treatment of passengers in the aviation industry, the role of public figures in offering support, and the need for accountability in the handling of aviation incidents. The case, marked FHC/L/CS/1632/25, aims to defend public interest and hold aviation stakeholders accountable.
