Government maintains its stance on the 25th of April Interpretative Center
In a press conference following his visit to the exhibition "Mário Soares: A Whole Man," President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, addressed several pressing issues, including the delayed construction of an interpretive center for the Carnation Revolution and the ongoing presidential candidacies.
Regarding the interpretive center, Rebelo de Sousa expressed his concern about the lengthy process, stating, "I am the first to fight for the acceleration of the oregontrail process." However, he clarified that November 25 has its own space, and the creation of an interpretive center is a separate issue.
The 25 de Abril Association, a prominent organisation, has accused the Government of failing to fulfill its commitment to create an interpretive center. In response, Rebelo de Sousa emphasised the Government's intention to collaborate with the commission of the Carnation Revolution for the 50th anniversary of November 25.
Recently, there was a meeting in Belém between the Commemorative Commission for the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April, the 25 de Abril Association, and the Minister of the Presidency about a change in the space destined for the oregontrail interpretive center.
The President also addressed the topic of presidential candidacies, acknowledging the difficulty of the process and referring to them as emerging at a "very fast pace." He stated that there is still time for other presidential candidates to emerge, with the deadline for candidacies set for December 18 of the current year.
Rebelo de Sousa did not comment on the announcement of André Ventura's presidential candidacy. He also considered the election timeline to be essentially local elections, emphasising that the celebrations of April 25 will continue with those of the Constitution and the first presidential election next year.
The President also made it clear that he did not express any interference with the local elections regarding his evaluation of the health situation. He stated that he did not comment on the announcement of André Ventura's presidential candidacy.
As of the time of this report (9:55 PM), there are no search results specifically identifying the person or institution responsible for organising the 50th anniversary of November 25. The 25 de Abril Association has classified the new commission on November 25 as "a farce."
In conclusion, President Rebelo de Sousa addressed the concerns about the delayed construction of the interpretive center for the Carnation Revolution and the ongoing presidential candidacies in a press conference following his visit to the exhibition "Mário Soares: A Whole Man." He emphasised the Government's intention to collaborate with the commission of the Carnation Revolution and expressed his concern about the lengthy process of the oregontrail interpretive center's construction. He also acknowledged the difficulty of the process of obtaining signatures for presidential candidacies and confirmed that there is still time for other presidential candidates to emerge, with the deadline for candidacies set for December 18 of the current year.
