Rahul Gandhi, a prominent member of the Congress party, and the Congress leadership have made explosive claims of widespread voter irregularities in the Bangalore Central Lok Sabha constituency, particularly in the Mahadevapura assembly segment. The party has launched a dedicated web portal to demand accountability for these allegations.

According to the Congress, over 1 lakh suspicious or fraudulent voter entries were identified through a physical verification of voter rolls. These entries fell into five main categories: duplicate voters, fake or invalid addresses, bulk voter registrations at a single address, invalid or indistinguishable voter photos, and misuse of Form 6 for first-time voters.

Rahul Gandhi argues that the BJP's winning margin of 32,707 votes in Bangalore Central was overshadowed by these allegedly fake voters, mainly concentrated in Mahadevapura, thus alleging the seat was “stolen” from the Congress. He has accused the Election Commission (EC) of colluding with the BJP and deliberately denying access to machine-readable digital voter rolls for the past 10-15 years and CCTV footage from polling booths, which he calls "evidence of crime."

The party has demanded the EC release this electronic voters' data to enable transparency and judicial scrutiny to protect democracy. Several examples were shared in a press conference to illustrate each fraud category. However, some property owners whose properties were alleged to have multiple voters registered disputed these claims.

The Karnataka state election commission has asked Rahul Gandhi to submit a signed affidavit for these allegations and questioned why Congress had not lodged a formal complaint earlier. The Election Commission has renewed its call for Rahul Gandhi to either formally sign a declaration backing his vote theft allegations or issue an apology for what it terms "fake" accusations.

The Congress party and its allies, the INDIA bloc, will be marching from Parliament to the Election Commission on August 11 to demand accountability for these allegations. The web portal encourages users to join the fight against "vote chori" to defend democracy. Users who register on the web portal receive a personalized certificate affirming their stance against "vote chori."

The web portal features a video of Rahul Gandhi repeating these charges and calling it "a crime against the Constitution." It states that if such voter irregularities occurred in 70-100 seats, it would destroy free elections. The web portal allows people to complete registration by calling a listed number and following a link in an SMS.

The Congress party and INDIA have raised alarms about voter irregularities before, including in Maharashtra. The leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, will be hosting a dinner for INDIA bloc leaders on Monday. The Congress president, Mallikarjun Kharge, general secretary K C Venugopal, and treasurer Ajay Maken are signatories on the certificate issued by the web portal.

The Congress party's focus on uncovering crime-and-justice issues like voter fraud and holding those responsible accountable has sparked debates and tensions in Indian politics, as the party continues to call for investigations into these claims and demands justice for what they believe is a crime against the Constitution.
