Government Explores Alleged Prison Attack on Igor Cabral
Igor Cabral, a resident of Natal, Brazil, found himself in police custody on July 30, 2025, following a brutal assault on his girlfriend, Juliana Garcia dos Santos Soares, that took place four days earlier. The attack, which left Juliana with severe facial and jaw fractures, was captured on the building's surveillance cameras.
On July 26, 2025, the argument between Cabral and Juliana escalated in an elevator, resulting in over 60 punches from Cabral. The scene was shocking, with Juliana unable to escape due to the lack of cameras in the hallway. She was eventually able to follow him up in another elevator, but her fear of being attacked persisted.
The investigation into the assault was handled by the Civil Police, who concluded their investigation on July 30, charging Cabral with attempted femicide. This charge led to Cabral's preventive detention without a scheduled release date.
Meanwhile, Cabral has alleged that he was assaulted in prison after his arrest. This claim is currently under investigation by the Penitentiary Administration Secretariat (SEAP) of Rio Grande do Norte. If the abuse claims are proven, strict measures will be taken.
Cabral had requested solitary confinement due to safety fears, but this was denied. He currently shares a cell with six other inmates at the Centro de Recebimento e Triagem in Parnamirim.
Juliana is currently under medical care, having undergone a 7-hour surgery for her injuries. The case is under judicial secrecy to protect her identity and safety.
