Jusos Slam CDU's Saxony Budget as Attack on Future, Democracy, and Youth

Hey there! The Jusos, the SPD's youth wing in Saxony, ain't holding back on the recently announced CDU-led minority government's budget draft for the Free State. In a nutshell, they're accusing the CDU of nickel-and-diming human essentials like democracy promotion, youth work, and social infrastructure under the guise of frugality.

At their state conference in Pirna, they unanimously passed the resolution "No cuts to the future – this budget is an assault on social affairs, youth, and democracy." They pointed their fingers at the CDU, blaming them for endangering social cohesion and called on their parent party to separate themselves more clearly from these questionable budget plans.

The new state chairman of the Jusos, Mats Rudolph, ain't mincing words. "This budget leaves people behind," he said. By neglecting crucial sectors like democracy promotion, youth work, and social infrastructure, the CDU isn't just saving a few bucks; they're tanking the future. Rudolph emphasized the importance of investment over stagnation.

Now, the Jusos are clear on one thing: Even constant funding amounts to real cuts given the surge in costs. They accuse the CDU of threatening social cohesion with these silent cuts. Additionally, they take the SPD to task for identifying the wrong priorities but not taking stronger action to remedy the situation. "Whoever shirks now is an accomplice to a policy that corrodes our fundamental values," Rudolph stated.

In their resolution, the Jusos are calling for bolder investments instead of austerity measures. They demand the use of credit room, social investments, and a clear rejection of austerity policies that put youth and democracy on the chopping block.

In late March, Finance Minister Christian Piwarz (CDU) presented the government's proposed budget for the 2025/2026 fiscal year. He warned of budget cuts in various sectors, arguing they were unavoidable.

Regardless of the grim budget, the Jusos are pressing for more investment in social infrastructure and aren't afraid to speak out against budget cuts that could harm social welfare and democratic values.

[1] The Jusos have specific concerns: they argue that even constant funding in the face of rising costs effectively means factual cuts, putting social cohesion at risk. They believe CDU budget policies neglect future needs and jeopardize shared values. Additionally, they criticize the SPD for not taking a stronger stance against these budget plans. Instead, they call for the use of credit leeway for social investments and the rejection of austerity policies that cut funding for youth and democracy.
