Government Announces Support for PM-Kisan Aid and SHGs in Flood-Stricken Jammu; Allocates Rs 76 Crores – As Stated by Shivraj Singh Chouhan

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced a series of measures to aid farmers and residents in Jammu and Kashmir, who have been affected by recent floods.

On a visit to the flood-hit village of Badyal Brahmana in R S Pura, Chouhan reiterated the Narendra Modi government's commitment to stand with the people of Jammu and Kashmir during this crisis. He assured that the Centre would extend all possible support to rebuild lives and livelihoods.

Chouhan inspected fields to assess crop losses and announced that one instalment of PM-Kisan would be released for farmers in flood-affected areas. Additionally, an additional 50 workdays have been added under MGNREGA, raising the total entitlement to 150 days.

In terms of housing, around 5,000 houses damaged in the floods will be rebuilt under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Each family will receive Rs 1.3 lakh, along with a separate toilet. Compensation will also be given to farmers who lost livestock.

The J&K Mining Department has been directed to relax rules to facilitate the use of sand deposits left in farmers' fields by the floods. Self Help Groups in Jammu and Kashmir will receive Rs 76 crore in relief.

The Centre will provide Central assistance to repair damaged canals and embankments in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to restore irrigation networks. Once the state government submits its memorandum, the Centre will provide relief without any stone being left unturned.

The J&K government has Rs 2,499 crore available under disaster management funds for relief and rehabilitation. The Union Agriculture Minister held a meeting with agricultural machinery manufacturers to ensure that the benefits of the GST reduction reach farmers from September 22.

However, no information about the release of PM-Kisan instalments or additional MGNREGA workdays, compensation for farmers who lost livestock, relief and rehabilitation for houses damaged in the floods, or which organization is supported by the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir to provide funds for the repair of damaged canals and dams was mentioned in these paragraphs.
