Governing bodies of the Gulf Cooperation Council hold statement following unordinary gathering in Doha
In a strong show of solidarity, the Supreme Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has condemned the Israeli occupation's aggression against the State of Qatar. The council views this escalation as a serious and unacceptable act, posing a direct threat to joint Gulf security and regional peace.
The leaders of the GCC nations expressed their gratitude to the brotherly Arab and Islamic nations, and friendly nations in the international community, for their swift condemnation of the Israeli occupation's actions and declarations of solidarity with Qatar.
In response, the GCC Defense Council has directed an urgent meeting in Doha to assess the defense situation and activate joint defense mechanisms. The council believes that the Israeli occupation's aggression against Qatar is a direct threat to the region's stability.
The GCC states have affirmed their full solidarity with Qatar in confronting this aggression. They stressed that any aggression against any GCC state is an aggression on all. The council also commended the efforts of Qatar's security and defense authorities in handling the incident and containing its repercussions.
The Supreme Council has called upon the Security Council, the international community, and influential states to take firm measures to stop these violations of international law. The council emphasised the need to adhere to United Nations principles, international treaties, and agreements, and to respect the sovereignty of states.
In addition, the council strongly condemned the Israeli occupation's crimes of genocide in the Gaza Strip. These crimes include displacing and starving the population, disrupting humanitarian aid, and killing journalists, essential workers, and humanitarian crews. The council urged nations of the world to condemn these actions.
The council's statements come at a time when Qatar has been diligently mediating a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and working to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people. The attack on Qatar is seen as obstructing these efforts.
