Paul Göttke Named New Director of German Bundestag
Paul Göttke has been appointed as the new Director of the German Bundestag, effective from May 12th. The appointment was proposed by Bundestag President Julia Klöckner to the Presidium.
Göttke's career at the German Bundestag spans over twenty years, during which he has held various roles, demonstrating his extensive experience and expertise. He began his career as a faction advisor and chief of staff to an MP. In 2006, he joined the administration of the German Bundestag, serving under then Bundestag President Prof. Dr. Norbert Lammert.
In his new role as Director, Göttke will be responsible for managing the parliamentary administration and supporting the functioning of the Bundestag. He has already made decisions reflecting his position's authority, such as emphasizing the political neutrality of parliamentary groups and representing the German Bundestag in international parliamentary forums.
Göttke has been instrumental in enhancing the German Bundestag's involvement in matters of the European Union within the newly created European Affairs Division. Currently, he serves as deputy faction director and deputy administrative head of the CDU/CSU faction.
His role as Director involves overseeing the administrative and procedural operations of the parliament under the authority of the Bundestag President. He has also shown a commitment to maintaining political neutrality, as evidenced by his statements that the Bundestag’s queer network must behave politically neutral.
Göttke's appointment marks a notable shift in the leadership of the German Bundestag. His extensive experience and commitment to the parliament's functioning make him a suitable choice for the role. The change will take effect on May 12th.
