Göttingen Offers Free Flood Protection Consultations and Funding
The city of Göttingen is offering free on-site consultations and financial support for private precautionary measures against flooding, thanks to its Climate Fund. This comprehensive initiative targets property owners in flood-prone areas, providing them with vital information and funding opportunities.
The project is part of the city's commitment to heavy rainfall preparedness, which has been recognised with awards from the German Association for Water, Wastewater, and Waste (DWA). Residents can access a publicly available heavy rainfall hazard map to identify flood-prone areas and obtain individual property information.
Göttingen and its Waste Management Authority (GEB) have previously won second place in the DWA Climate Prize for their efforts in this field. The prize acknowledges implemented measures that reduce greenhouse gases, adapt to climate change consequences, and are transferable, innovative, and effective. The DWA, with approximately 14,000 members representing specialists and leaders from various sectors, is dedicated to developing a safe and sustainable water management system.
The city of Göttingen continues to prioritise flood prevention and new climate change adaptation. Through its Climate Fund, it offers free consultations and financial support to help property owners in flood-prone areas. This commitment has been recognised with multiple awards, demonstrating the city's dedication to effective and innovative climate solutions.
