Gotthard Pass closes for winter as tunnel stays open for traffic

The Gotthard road tunnel will continue to operate as usual during the winter solstice, but the Gotthard Pass will be closed due to wintry conditions. The hiking and cycling trail in the Schöllenen remains closed for repairs.

The Gotthard road tunnel will remain open during the winter season, allowing traffic to flow as normal. However, the Gotthard Pass between Hospental and Airolo will be closed from Friday due to wintry conditions. The responsible authority, the Federal Roads Office (Astra), has confirmed this seasonal closure.

In the Schöllenen area, the hiking and cycling trail will also remain inaccessible. Ongoing repairs from a previous rockfall have led to this closure. Meanwhile, snow dumps are being installed above the Teufelsbrücke bridge in the same area to manage winter conditions.
