In an interview conducted earlier this year by Gray DC, Republican Congressman Don Bacon of Nebraska expressed his concerns about the ongoing Ukraine-Russia conflict and shared his thoughts on the future of American foreign policy.

Bacon, who identifies as a Ronald Reagan-style Republican, believes in peace through strength and has been a vocal advocate for supporting Ukraine in its war efforts against Russia. He has called on the White House to do more to aid Ukraine, stating that President Donald Trump is on the wrong side of history in the conflict.

Bacon supports secondary sanctions against Russia and its allies and has even gone as far as to be the first Republican to get on a Democrat bill to discharge one, forcing a vote on the floor regarding sanctions against Russia. He also supports legislative action arming Ukraine and sanctioning Russia and its allies.

Bacon considers himself an American before a partisan and believes in consensus building. He stated that he has lived up to that standard and hopes he has left a legacy he is proud of for Nebraska and himself. However, he has not specified his future plans after leaving office.

In the interview, Bacon expressed his deep concern about the future of the world order, particularly as it pertains to Russia. He believes that Putin's intention to restore his old borders should be taken seriously and that if Putin continues his current path, American security could be impacted.

Bacon is concerned about the ongoing tests of Russia's nuclear-powered missile 'Burewestnik,' which threatens environmental contamination and signals enhanced Russian second-strike capabilities, complicating strategic stability and deterrence for the US. He also noted that deteriorating cooperation with Europe on countering Russian disinformation could weaken collective defense against hybrid threats.

Bacon has made fiery social media posts calling out Donald Trump regarding the Ukraine-Russia conflict and has been critical of the President's handling of the situation. He stated that he expects more from a President, especially a Republican President, in the Ukraine-Russia conflict.

The interview with Rep. Don Bacon is copyrighted by Gray DC in 2025. Bacon will not run for re-election in one of the country's most competitive swing districts, leaving behind a legacy of strong advocacy for American interests and a commitment to bipartisan consensus building.
