Organic > Conventional, but at a Premium
Organic, however, comes at a price. We're looking at roughly 10 euros more per kilo apart from the 29.90 euros for a thousand grams. Why the significant markup? The association attributed this to the costlier organic feed fed to the animals.
Geese from Poland and Hungary are considerably cheaper. Say hello to budget-friendly frozen goods priced between 9 to 10 euros per kilo!
Why Goose in Germany is More Expensive 💡
Foie gras production, where geese are pumped with mash, is prohibited in Germany. Additionally, the plucking of feathers from live geese is also outlawed.
In light of these regulations, the association suggests prioritizing German goose products. Geese from the region are usually kept outdoors and have shorter transportation routes.

Even with the high costs, goose remains a holiday favorite in Germany. Around 18,000 tons of goose meat is sold between St. Martin's Day and Christmas, translating to approximately four million animals consumed!
